KU Leuven (University of Leuven, www.kuleuven.be) carries out fundamental and applied research in all academic disciplines. In the past few years in particular, the quality and quantity of the KU Leuven’s efforts and output have considerably increased, thus positioning Leuven at the forefront of European universities. Central administration (Research Coordination Office & Leuven Research & Development) has a long history in supporting projects at the national, EU and other international levels. LRD is one of the oldest technology transfer offices in the EU and will thus guarantee optimal administrative, management and collaboration support.
The DTAI (Declarative Languages and Artificial Intelligence) research group in the Department of Computer Science of KU Leuven contains about 60 researchers, including 10 senior researchers and 7 postdocs. The machine learning (ML) group within DTAI investigates all types of ML and data mining problems and techniques, including pattern mining, graph analyses, (statistical) relational learning, Web mining, and interactive data mining. The group also has internationally recognized expertise in privacy and discrimination-aware data mining, web mining, and user-centred interactive systems, particularly in the educational field.
KU Leuven provides access to state-of-the-art computing facilities and software environments: high-performance cluster, multi-terabyte storage systems (NetApp). Local cloud infrastructure: document management and collaboration system (Confluence), data and code repositories (SCMManager), websites (Drupal Content Management System). The DTAI group has access to and research experience with a wide range of pertinent datasets and others resources for data science. Through the KU Leuven libraries, students have comprehensive access to relevant publications. The Arenberg Doctoral School provides training and career advice for KULeuven PhD students. The KU Leuven student service assists foreign students in all practical matters.
